The person behind the register.
A short account of how a hotelier became an airman, an airman came back to the hotels, and the hotels led to machines and the web.
I started in hotels, and I started early: general manager of properties for a regional group, including new builds walked from construction dust to opening night. That led to the corporate side, managing assets across a national hotel portfolio, and to the concierge desk of the luxury world, where the standard is perfection and the margin for error is zero.
Then I traded the lobby for the flight line. In the United States Air Force I worked Munitions Systems, the trade responsible for the weapons behind the mission. It is precision logistics with live ordnance: built, stored, moved, and accounted for, with a count that is never allowed to be wrong. Order stopped being a preference and became a practice.
The practice followed me out. Hotels again, several at once, where satisfaction scores rose and costs did not. Hospitality marketing and hotel web platforms. Then a systems practice of my own, Ameen Systems, designing, building, and operating a fleet of sites and products, and a seat as secretary on a nonprofit board of directors.
These days the operations are physical again: materials and site management for automated logistics, the conveyors, robotics, and high-density storage systems that move goods through modern distribution centers. The register also holds two degrees, one in biotechnology and one in religious culture with a minor in business and ethics, and a growing file of certificates collected the way some people collect stamps. The full file is on the certificates page.
I live on the Carolina coast. When I am not working I am usually reading something dense or putting a film franchise in its correct order. Evidence in the annex.
